City Profile
There's no bigger city in Texas. Houston was established in the 1820s, the first settlement being Harrisburg. General Santa Anna's Mexican Army destroyed the settlement in 1836, as part of his ongoing battles with Sam Houston, and the Texas Army. Santa Anna was taken after the Battle of San Jacinto, just outside the old settlement, just a few days later, and Texas was free.
Houston offers everything from breathtaking museum exhibits to vibrant downtown entertainment. Explore the wonder of space or spend the day shopping to your heart’s content.
Visitors may find it hard to choose among all the great stuff Houston offers. From moon rocks to nature walks, thrill rides to historic sites, cuddly koalas to racing dogs, there’s something fun to see and do for everyone in the family.
