    About Houston
    City Profile

General Santa Anna's Mexican Army destroyed the settlement in 1836, as part of his ongoing battles with Sam Houston, and the Texas Army. Santa Anna was taken after the Battle of San Jacinto, just outside the old settlement, just a few days later, and Texas was free.
